Two eighteen a.m. I know because the glaring ring of the telephone stung in my ears, yanking me away from a deep slumber. I struggled onto my side, glancing at the alarm clock as I reached for the phone, my eyes swimming inside my head.
“Hello?”
“Sorry to disturb you, Mr. Alexander, it’s the front desk.”
I sat up, rubbing my eyes as I fumbled for the light switch.
“Yes?” I responded, alarms going off in my head. What possibly could the front desk want with me at this late hour?
For a split second a horrific thought flooded through me—a terrorist attack was unfolding floors below, and I had minutes or even mere seconds to react before the mayhem and carnage kicked into high gear.
“You have a visitor, Mr. Alexander. I need to know whether to send her up.”
Her.
My stomach tightened.
“Who is it?” I asked barely above a whisper, feeling my heart bounce.
“A Mrs. Marquis. She says she’s a client of yours.”
My mind hit a wall. For a moment I was speechless, unable to process what the desk clerk had just told me. Hours ago, the very same Mrs. Marquis had left me standing on a picturesque curb in midtown Manhattan, a sour look painted on my face as the epitome of perfection left me standing there like a fool. Alone.
And now she was here…downstairs…
“Send her up,” I said, my mind clearing.
“Right away, sir,” the clerk responded, replacing the phone.
I stared at the receiver for a moment then down at my half-naked form. I was clad only in a pair of black French Connection boxer briefs, FCUK written across the waistband in bold, block lettering, the fabric tight and form fitting, showing off the package.
My package.
My mind continued to race—what to do, how to act?
But then a calm overtook me. I let my breathing return to normal. What was there to be concerned about? I was Trey Alexander, the man, and I needed to damn near start acting like him. I was in control—always had been. The fact that a fine-ass woman was in my sights should never throw me for a loop. I guess I was slipping…the past few months had taken a toll on me. With work and shit—not that that was any excuse, but I had slipped and lost sight of who I was for a moment…
But Trey was back in control!
And tonight, I would take no prisoners.
A rap at my door cut through the din of my concentration.
I rose from the bed, went to the door, and opened it.
Giovanna stood there in a red terry cloth sweat suit, a pair of Nikes, and an oversized leather coat that hung to her mid-section. A Baltimore Orioles baseball cap adorned her head. I felt myself stirring, and did nothing to contain my swelling state.
I let my gaze scan over her body, my stare lingering at the curves of her hips.
“Did I wake you?” she asked, her voice not far above a whisper.
“You did,” I answered.
She smiled seductively.
“Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?” she asked.
